For the second straight game, Hamilton will face off against Biggs. The Braves will challenge the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Hamilton fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Biggs on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolverines. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 6, 2022, but that streak is no more.
For Biggs' part, Matthew Martin and David Ibarra made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Martin tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Ibarra didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Martin has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. At bat, Martin went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Ibarra went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Ibarra has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Brady Smith was incredible, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Biggs' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 8-2 (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dennis Dewhurst, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Biggs kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 11-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Biggs moved to 12-10 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Hamilton, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 16-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hamilton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Biggs struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
