The West Catholic Burrs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past George School 70-46. The result was nothing new for West Catholic, who have now won three contests by 24 points or more so far this season.
West Catholic found their leader in underclassman Jasmine Butler, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Sakinah Abdus-Salaam, who scored 13 points.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gianna Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Zamiya Lowe was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
West Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for George School, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
West Catholic will look to defend their home court on December 31, 2023 against Cristo Rey Philadelphia at 12:00 p.m. Cristo Rey Philadelphia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 412th, while West Catholic is ranked 111th). George School will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Trenton Catholic Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Trenton Catholic Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
