San Lorenzo hasn't had much luck against Mt. Eden recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will take on the Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. San Lorenzo's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Mt. Eden's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
San Lorenzo fell victim to San Leandro and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They came up short against the Pirates, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Grizzlies, who until this match were averaging 3.43 runs allowed.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Mt. Eden's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Newark Memorial by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Monarchs have suffered since February 26th.
Javier Alfaro III was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Alfaro III wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cristian Alvarenga, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Alvarenga is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
This is the second loss in a row for San Lorenzo and nudges their season record down to 11-3. As for Mt. Eden, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. San Lorenzo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mt. Eden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
San Lorenzo suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to Mt. Eden in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
