The St. Mary's Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Bloomfield Bees at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully St. Mary's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Tuesday.
St. Mary's can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest. They really took it to Santee for the full four quarters, racking up a 80-33 win at home. St. Mary's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
St. Mary's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alissa Brabec led the charge by scoring 24 points along with three steals. Annabelle Barlow was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Bloomfield posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They blew past Chambers/Wheeler Central 47-25. The victory was just what Bloomfield needed coming off of a 69-35 defeat in their prior game.
Madison Abbenhaus was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Bloomfield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kora Poppe, who scored nine points.
The win (which was St. Mary's third in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Bloomfield's record is now 6-8.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: St. Mary's hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 59.1 points per game. It's a different story for Bloomfield, though, as they've been averaging only 46.3 points per game. The only thing between St. Mary's and another offensive beatdown is Bloomfield. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for St. Mary's against Bloomfield in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 60-29 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Mary's since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
