College Park is 1-6 against De La Salle since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Falcons will head out to take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (College Park 3.8, De La Salle 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
College Park can't be too worried about heading out to take on De La Salle: they just beat Clayton Valley Charter at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Falcons never let the Ugly Eagles get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Thursday. The Falcons not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th (when they won 8-0).
TJ Reinhart was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Vincent 'Tino' Vasell, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, De La Salle came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Wolves as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
De La Salle also got a great performance from Graham Schlicht as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Schlicht has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, De La Salle let Antonio Castro and Tyler Spangler run wild. Castro went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Spangler went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Spangler has posted since back in March. Alec Blair was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
De La Salle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Ramon Valley only managed two hits.
De La Salle pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for College Park, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
College Park couldn't quite get it done against De La Salle in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
