Needles has gone a perfect 10-0 against Awaken Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Needles Mustangs will face off against the Awaken Christian Lions at 1:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Needles needed a bit of extra time to put away Pahrump Valley. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 10-6. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on three straight.
Tyler Wilson and JD Lusk did most of the damage at the plate: Wilson scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Lusk scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Lusk has posted since back in May of 2024.
While Awaken Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Beaver Dam on Friday as Awaken Christian made off with a 13-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won three games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Ethan Roth was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Awaken Christian let Antonio Rubeis and Deven West run wild. Rubeis went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while West scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That triple was Rubeis' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Wulfenstein, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
The victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Needles, the win got them back to even at 5-5-1.
Everything went Needles' way against Awaken Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Needles made off with an 11-1 victory. Does Needles have another victory up their sleeve, or will Awaken Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
