Sophie Haycox was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Catholic Central got a massive performance out of Maggie Louden, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave Louden a new career-high. Makayla McClendon was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Catholic Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Covington beat Beavercreek 7-3 on Saturday.
Whitney Burns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emalyn Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Foutz, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Catholic Central's record is now 4-19. As for Covington, their record now sits at 19-5.
Catholic Central might still be hurting after the 24-1 loss they got from Covington when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Irish avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
