Davis Sr. is 8-0 against Grant since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The pair will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Davis Sr. posted their closest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Franklin and snuck past 42-39.
Tessa Schouten continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds. Izzy Cherry was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Grant was able to grind out a solid win over Kennedy on Tuesday, taking the game 59-51. Given Grant's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Kennedy is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Samaya Dillard and Nerissa Hamilton were among the main playmakers for Grant as the former dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds and the latter scored 18 points along with six steals. Hamilton hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Asia Washington, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Davis Sr. has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Grant, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Davis Sr. have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Grant struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 44.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Davis Sr. beat Grant 70-60 in their previous meeting back in February of 2018. Will Davis Sr. repeat their success, or does Grant have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
