The McGuffey Highlanders had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 58-28 victory over Uniontown. Given McGuffey's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Uniontown is ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McGuffey was led to victory by Alexis Ewig and Taylor Schumacher. Ewig scored 13 points along with five steals, while Schumacher scored 18 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Schumacher has scored at least 25% of McGuffey's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailee Kay, who scored no points along with six assists.
McGuffey's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Uniontown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
McGuffey will be playing in front of their home fans against West Greene at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. West Greene comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Uniontown, they will head out on the road to face off against Laurel Highlands at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Laurel Highlands will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
