Basketball Recap: Golden Sierra Comes Up Short

Golden Sierra was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Woodland Christian Cardinals and fell 77-30. While losing is never fun, the Grizzlies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1024th, while the Cardinals are ranked 377th).

Despite the loss, Golden Sierra had strong showings from Scarlet Harvey, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals, and Carly Sherman, who posted seven points and five boards. Harvey is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Golden Sierra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Woodland Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keziah Maldonado-Lemus, who dropped a triple-double with 11 points, 11 boards, and ten assists. Siena Sorbello was another key player, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Golden Sierra's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Woodland Christian, they pushed their record up to 19-5 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home.

Golden Sierra wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 36-24 victory against Mesa Verde on the 7th. As for Woodland Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-11 win against San Juan on the 7th.
