Bishop hasn't had much luck against Classical Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Caimans at 4:00 p.m. Bishop's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Bishop's took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against La Jolla Country Day, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights skirted past the Torreys 7-5.
Clyde Kates was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Kates was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

Kates wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hugo Avila-Marquez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Avila-Marquez a new career-high.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Classical Academy and Santa Fe Christian, and Classical Academy kept the tradition alive. The Caimans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles on Friday, sneaking past 3-2. That's two games straight that the Caimans have won by just one run.
Classical Academy also got a great performance from Adam Hukill as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Hukill has become a key player for the Caimans: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Travis Perry, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Classical Academy pushed their record up to 8-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop's, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-1 record this season.
Classical Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop's hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. It's a different story for Classical Academy, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Bishop's hitters?
Bishop's couldn't quite get it done against Classical Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
