Despite the loss, Mount Miguel saw an underclassman step up: Jaylene Hughes dropped a double-double on 30 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 66.7% of Mount Miguel's points, marking the 23rd time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was AJ Jones, who scored seven points.
Mount Miguel has been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season. As for Monte Vista, their win bumped their record up to 10-13.
Mount Miguel will head out on the road to square off against Grossmont at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grossmont presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mount Miguel in California (Grossmont is ranked 216th, while Mount Miguel is ranked 1214th). As for Monte Vista, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Granite Hills at 6:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Kerstena Tomika and Jazmyn Montague.
