After flying high against the New Castle Hurricanes last Thursday, the Hampton Talbots came back down to earth. Hampton lost to Mars on the road by a decisive 54-40 margin on Monday. While losing is never fun, Hampton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while Mars is ranked 153rd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mars to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cecilia Christy, who scored 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Vita Vargo, who scored 14 points.
Hampton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Mars, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Hampton will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fox Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Mars and Baldwin will round out the year against one another at 1:30 p.m. on December 27th at.
