The Westview Wolverines will be taking part in a tournament against the Torrey Pines Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Westview comes in on three and Torrey Pines on four.
Westview proved they can win big on Friday (they won by six) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Scripps Ranch 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolverines have posted since April 10, 2025.
Joseph Arango-Manley was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Charles Jaskowiak, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Torrey Pines ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over Patrick Henry. While the Falcons didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The team relied heavily on Camden Nishnick, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Cullen Green was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Torrey Pines' win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Westview, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Torrey Pines struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Westview might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Torrey Pines when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
