The Portage Mustangs came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 53-44 victory over United. That's another feather in the cap for Portage, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Jenna Burkett was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Bednarksi, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, United still got an impressive performance from Delaney Perrone, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds. Maddison McGinnis was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Portage pushed their record up to 21-1 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.6 points. As for United, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5.
Portage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. United will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chucks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
