The Point Loma Pointers were the 44-40 winner over the San Diego Cavers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Point Loma lost to San Diego at home by a decisive 45-30 margin on Friday. Point Loma has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Point Loma still got an impressive performance from Rachael Morris, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Morris hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 20 straight games.
San Diego's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lara Saucedo led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Saucedo hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Shanti Glenn, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Point Loma's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for San Diego, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Point Loma will face off against Palo Verde Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palo Verde Valley is coming into the contest with seven straight defeats at home, meaning Point Loma will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for San Diego, they will head out on the road to face off against Morse at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully San Diego focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
