Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Calexico's 12th in Last 13 Outings

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Calexico walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Vista Panthers on Wednesday as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jose Ortega made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Randy Baez, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most home runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ander Garcia, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Calexico lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Calexico has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-10.

Calexico does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Vista, they are taking a road trip to take on Escondido at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 4, the Cougars 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
