Sotomayor is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Maywood CES Wolfpack at 2:15 p.m. Sotomayor has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sotomayor managed to slip by Eagle Rock the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Sotomayor came up short against Eagle Rock on Friday, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 26 runs in the game before, the Wolves couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maywood CES). They blew past Bravo 14-5 on Thursday.
David Aguirre and David Angulo made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Aguirre struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Angulo pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Aguirre scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Angulo scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Brian Aguirre was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Patrick Benavidez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Maywood CES always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Maywood CES is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Sotomayor's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Sotomayor was able to grind out a solid victory over Maywood CES when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. Will Sotomayor repeat their success, or does Maywood CES has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
