Grossmont extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 10-13. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Helix Scotties. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Scotties this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Thursday.
Reid Barnett and Colton Burke did some serious damage despite the final result: Barnett went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Burke went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Trey Crawford was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Helix, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.
On Helix's side, Isaac Fierro looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Fierro posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Angel Watkins, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Herman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Grossmont didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-3 loss against Point Loma on the 4th. As for Helix, they have also already played their next matchup, a 6-2 defeat against Granite Hills on the 6th.
