University Prep and Durham are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Panthers will take on the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. University Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
University Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Colusa a 3-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Not much got past Jacob Lindell, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Colusa off the board.
On the hitting side, University Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Wenham, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Durham got the win against Paradise on Friday by a conclusive 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Joden Hoglund looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Durham got a big performance out of Jack Stephens, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brady Doyle, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Durham has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for University Prep, their win bumped their record up to 19-9-1.
Durham's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: University Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Durham, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain University Prep's hitters?
University Prep beat Durham 12-7 in their previous matchup back in May of 2018. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
