The Chavez Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Arleta, falling 73-17. Chavez was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-9.
Arleta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaliyah Serpas, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Serpas has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aakira Smith, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Chavez's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.5 points per game. As for Arleta, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chavez the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome North Hollywood at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. North Hollywood is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Arleta, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Poly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Poly is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
