The Sylmar Spartans lost against the Kennedy Cougars back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Sylmar fell 45-36 to the Cougars. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sylmar in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Sylmar had strong showings from Vivianna Alvarado, who scored 12 points, and Mia Ceja, who scored ten points.
Kennedy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andreya Villa, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Villa hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenny Sanchez, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and six assists.
Sylmar's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Kennedy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
Sylmar won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Roadrunners at 9:00 a.m. on January 27th. Crossroads is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Kennedy, they will challenge the Regents at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Reseda will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 997th, while the Cougars are ranked 256th).
