Aaron Mcmasters went supernova for Southmont, as he made all 7 shots he took to post 18 points and four steals. Mcmasters is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dean Mcgaughey, who posted ten points and four steals.
Southmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Covington came into Saturday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging a 56-29 win over Attica. With the Trojans ahead 41-14 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Southmont better keep an eye on Urban Roarks. He was instrumental in Covington's win, going 6 of 8 on his way to 17 points and three steals. That's the most points Roarks has posted since back in December of 2023. Landon Herzog was another key player, putting up eight points and ten boards.
Southmont pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Covington, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Southmont has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Covington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
