La Mirada is 9-1 against Downey since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Matadores will face off against the Vikings at 3:15 p.m. La Mirada is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Downey will be up against a hot La Mirada squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Matadores walked away with an 8-3 victory over Warren on Thursday.
Kaden Corns looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, La Mirada let Bear Calvo and Travis Friend run wild. Calvo went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Friend went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Calvo has posted since back in May of 2024. Kevin Jeon was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
La Mirada kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Downey suffered their biggest loss since February 21st on Wednesday. They came up short against La Mirada, falling 11-1. The Vikings have struggled against the Matadores recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Downey also got a good showing from Jeff Pinal, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Pinal a new career-low in walks (zero).
At the plate, Downey saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Derek Bringas, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
La Mirada's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Downey, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
