Given Beaumont United's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Beaumont United's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayde Dotson, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Clarence Payia, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Brook entered their tilt with the Mustangs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. West Brook walked away with a 45-35 victory over the Mustangs on Wednesday. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but West Brook was the better team in the second half.
Beaumont United pushed their record up to 25-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for West Brook, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season.
Beaumont United was able to grind out a solid victory over the Bruins in their previous meeting back in January, winning 57-49. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was West Brook's Ashton Simmons, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
