Elk Grove hasn't had much luck against Clovis recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Thundering Herd will be playing at home against the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. Elk Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Elk Grove was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They skirted past St. Mary's 7-6.
Ethan Bagwill looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tristen Bartlett, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Brayden Ford was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Clovis never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Garces Memorial. The matchup marked the Cougars' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Caden Frantzich looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Maddox Merrill was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Byrd, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Clovis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Elk Grove pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Clovis, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Elk Grove suffered a grim 12-6 defeat to Clovis in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Will the Thundering Herd have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
