Football Recap: Seven Straight Home Wins for Thomson + How To Watch

There's no place like home for Thomson, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 50-42 win over the Academy of Richmond County Musketeers on Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bulldogs' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Thomson was led to victory by Zay Brinson and Noah Merriweather. Brinson rushed for 82 yards and five TDs, while Merriweather rushed for 133 yards and one touchdown. That's the most rushing yards Brinson has posted since back in August of 2024.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Thomson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 277 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy of Richmond County only rushed for 85 rushing yards.

Thomson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Markevion Jones and Aiden Robertson.

Academy of Richmond County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Hand, who threw for 226 yards and four TDs, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Mykheal Smith, who rushed for 75 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries.

Thomson pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.3 points over those games. As for Academy of Richmond County, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Thomson will challenge Grovetown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Academy of Richmond County, they will face off against Westside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Musketeers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
