Whitney extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 7-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rocklin Thunder. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 on Tuesday.
Gavyn Dulaney stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mason Harris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Rocklin, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-10-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.
On Rocklin's side, Andrew Hancock tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Hancock has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rocklin got a massive performance out of Roman Castellanos, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The Thunder are 6-1-1 when Castellanos posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Lujan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
While Whitney had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
