Madison has gone a perfect 3-0 against Mira Mesa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Warhawks will venture away from home to face off against the Marauders at 4:00 p.m. Madison's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four games, but Monday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.
If Madison beats Mira Mesa with two runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Warhawks came out on top in a nail-biter against Scripps Ranch on Tuesday, sneaking past 2-0.
Madison got a great performance from Colin Gallagher as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Gallagher has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leo Wilderman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Mira Mesa started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Coronado. They fell 7-4 to the Islanders on Thursday. Marauders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Islanders since on Thursday.
Mira Mesa also got a good showing from Patrick Vue, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Vue a new career-low in walks (zero).
At the plate, Tristan Aguon was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. Khalil Graham was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Madison is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mira Mesa, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-11-1.
Mira Mesa's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Madison has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mira Mesa, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Madison keep running through batters, or will the Marauders buck the trend?
Everything went Madison's way against Mira Mesa in their previous matchup back in April of 2018, as Madison made off with an 11-5 victory. Do the Warhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marauders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
