The Azusa Aztecs typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Don Lugo Conquistadores proved too difficult a challenge. Don Lugo put the hurt on Azusa with a sharp 44-24 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Don Lugo.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Don Lugo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makena Encarnacion, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Issabela Medina was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Azusa's loss came despite strong showings from Tanisha Rentereia and Lilliana Maldonado. Rentereia dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Maldonado scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Rentereia hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games.
Don Lugo now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Azusa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Don Lugo will take on Montclair at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Azusa won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mayfield at 5:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Wednesday.
