Baseball Recap: Hamilton Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Hamilton dropped their record down to 16-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Biggs Wolverines. The Braves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Patrick Matthews was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Leal, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Biggs, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-10. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 6, 2022, but that streak is no more.

On Biggs' side, Matthew Martin and David Ibarra were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Martin pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Ibarra didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Martin also tossed a walk, which is notable because Biggs is 6-3 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise. At bat, Martin went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Ibarra went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Ibarra has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Smith, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Biggs' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 8-2 (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dennis Dewhurst, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.

While Hamilton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
