The Kennedy Thunderbirds suffered their biggest loss since December 29, 2023 on Monday. Their rough 47-23 defeat to Taft might stick with them for a while. Kennedy just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Despite the loss, Kennedy saw an underclassman step up: Imaree Curry dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. Another player making a difference was Jocelyne Madue?a, who scored six points along with three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Kennedy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Taft racked up 11 assists.
Taft's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alaysia Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Taira Leota was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and two steals.
Kennedy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Taft, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-12.
Kennedy will be playing at home against Delano at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Delano is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Taft, they will head out on the road to take on Shafter at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Shafter knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully Taft likes a good challenge.
