Kingsland is 3-0 against Houston since September of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Kingsland Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Houston Hurricanes at 2:00 p.m. One thing working in Kingsland's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
Kingsland put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Lanesboro, posting a 46-0 victory at home. Given Kingsland's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota football rankings (they are ranked first, while Lanesboro is ranked 27th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Beau Wiersma was his usual excellent self, rushing for 194 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Wiersma was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards. Sam Howard got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Houston didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Southland on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 24-20 win.
Houston got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aden Kulas out in front who rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown. Zach Olson was another key contributor, rushing for 39 yards and two touchdowns.
Kingsland's win was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 37.33 points. As for Houston, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Kingsland has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 327.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Houston struggles in that department as they've been averaging 210.6 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Kingsland against Houston when the teams last played back in September as the squad secured a 62-20 victory. Will Kingsland repeat their success, or does Houston have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
