Templeton and Santa Ynez are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Eagles will head out to face off against the Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Templeton turned things around against Cabrillo on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Conquistadores.
Nate Argain made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Argain was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Templeton got a massive performance out of Ryder Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Garcia a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luke Olsen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Santa Ynez came out on top against San Luis Obispo Classical Academy on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Grizzlies. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Elijah Roberts looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jaxon Glover was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. David Aquistapace also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Santa Ynez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Luis Obispo Classical Academy only posted an OBP of .353.
Santa Ynez's record is now 10-2. As for Templeton, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-9.
Templeton beat Santa Ynez 11-6 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
