Southwest SD hasn't had much luck against Mar Vista recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mariners at 3:30 p.m.
Southwest SD fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Castle Park on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 5-4.
Aquiles Lugo made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Lewis, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Mar Vista waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Spartans. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 6, 2025, but that streak is no more.
JAKE LESLIE made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, ANTHONY SANCHEZ was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. KAI LANDRY was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Southwest SD's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Mar Vista, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southwest SD has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mar Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Southwest SD came up short against Mar Vista in their previous matchup back in April, falling 4-1. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
