Basketball Recap: West Point-Beemer Piles Up the Points Against Lyons-Decatur Northeast

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for West Point-Beemer on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars out of the water with a 69-32 final score. Given the Cadets' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Cougars are ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Point-Beemer's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Doggett, who went 6 of 11 en route to 14 points and four steals. That's the most steals Doggett has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hunter Swanson, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and seven assists.

West Point-Beemer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lyons-Decatur Northeast only pulled down two offensive boards.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaden Knaak, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 15 points, and Talan Mock, who posted nine points.

The win made it two in a row for West Point-Beemer and bumps their season record up to 9-3. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

West Point-Beemer will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Battle Creek at 7:00 p.m. West Point-Beemer has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars take on the Tekamah-Herman Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
