This season hasn't been kind to the San Ysidro Cougars, who are still winless after their fourth match. The match between San Ysidro and Mar Vista wasn't particularly close, with San Ysidro falling 42-27. San Ysidro was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mar Vista apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, San Ysidro saw an underclassman step up: Kristine Fadriquela scored 21 points. Fadriquela scored a full 77.8% of San Ysidro's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Martinez, who scored 6 points.
Mar Vista got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anissa Smith out in front who scored 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least 25% of Mar Vista's points. Another player making a difference was Allyson Bell, who scored 13 points.
San Ysidro has yet to win a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 0-4 record. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Mar Vista, their win bumped their record up to 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Ysidro will take on Vincent Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mar Vista will be home for the holidays to greet Coronado at 5:00 p.m. on December 15th.
