The Lakeside Lancers will be taking part in a tournament against the Xavier Prep Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Xavier Prep took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lakeside, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with five losses in a row dating back to last season, Lakeside turned things around against Nuview Bridge on Tuesday. They blew past the Knights 11-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lancers considering their one-run performance the game before.
David Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He also got two hits, marking his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Diego Serrano looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024.
Back at the plate, Bennett Benitez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Zepeda, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Lakeside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nuview Bridge only posted an OBP of .235.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Xavier Prep was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of Woodcrest Christian by a score of 3-1. The loss was the Saints' first of the season.
Xavier Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zain Valdivia, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Xavier Prep's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-1. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only two runs. As for Lakeside, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Lakeside beat Xavier Prep 8-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2022. Does Lakeside have another victory up their sleeve, or will Xavier Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
