Irvine fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Portola on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 2-1. The Vaqueros' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Adam Valencia was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Irvine now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Portola, they moved to 8-12 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Irvine is set to square off against their familiar foe Sage Hill at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Portola will challenge rival Laguna Beach at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
