Softball Recap: Terrell County Takes a Loss

Terrell County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 0-4. They lost 29-9 to the Dougherty Trojans. On the bright side, the nine- run effort marked the Greenwave's highest-scoring match to date.

As for Dougherty, their win bumped their record up to 6-13. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

For Dougherty's part, Jalexi Thomas made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Thomas was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Dariona Simmons was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and five runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five). Jaida Nelson was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Terrell County will take on Early County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dougherty, they will challenge Westover at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Patriots have now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests.
