Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Bonita Bearcats walked away with it. They took down the Firehawks 51-32 on Thursday. Given Bonita's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Shalhevet is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bonita's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naomi Acuna led the charge by scoring 13 points along with five steals. Jordy Demott was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
The victory made it two in a row for Bonita and bumps their season record up to 19-9. As for Shalhevet, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-8.
Bonita didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-36 defeat vs. Moreno Valley on the 10th. Shalhevet does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
