On Thursday, the Jackson-Reed Tigers faced the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Jackson-Reed took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Georgetown Day. Jackson-Reed was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Georgetown Day apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Jackson-Reed's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noa Gordon, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Gordon posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kryslynn Stewart, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Georgetown Day was led to victory by Nevaeh Roberson and Madisyn Moore. Roberson almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, while Moore dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. Moore hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games.
Jackson-Reed's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Georgetown Day, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 17-6.
Jackson-Reed won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Woodson at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th. Woodson is coming into the game with four straight losses on the road, meaning Jackson-Reed will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Georgetown Day, they will take on The Academy of the Holy Cross at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for The Academy of the Holy Cross: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Georgetown Day has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
