The Valley View Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Moreno Valley Vikings at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Valley View has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 1.
Last Thursday, Valley View didn't have quite enough to beat Poly and fell 3-2.
Valley View saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Deavon Mahoney, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Moreno Valley had just enough and edged out Orange Vista 8-6 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly two runs.
Moreno Valley also got a great performance from E. Alferez as he tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Alferez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on C. Logan, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Moreno Valley is undefeated when Logan posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Vazquez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Moreno Valley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Valley View, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Valley View has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Moreno Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Valley View couldn't quite get it done against Moreno Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 as they fell 6-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
