On Saturday, Olympian came up short against Scripps Ranch and fell 42-29. While losing is never fun, Olympian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 389th, while Scripps Ranch is ranked 188th).
Despite the loss, Olympian still got an impressive performance from Asia Darcuiel, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Darcuiel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Alyssa Martin was another key contributor, scoring three points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Scripps Ranch was led to victory by Daniela Sexenian and Clare Valentine. Sexenian scored eight points along with six assists and four steals, while Valentine almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Valentine hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games.
Olympian has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-12 record this season. As for Scripps Ranch, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-8.
Olympian will head out on the road to take on Bonita Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bonita Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Olympian likes a good challenge. As for Scripps Ranch, they will be playing at home against Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Scripps Ranch is facing Academy of Our Lady of Peace at the right time seeing as Academy of Our Lady of Peace is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
