In what's become a running theme this season, the Pius X Thunderbolts gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They blew past Marian 50-29. The win was just what Pius X needed coming off of a 62-38 defeat in their prior game.
Pius X can attribute much of their success to Keeleigh Knobbe, who scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Knobbe has scored all season. Ellie Wells was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds.
Marian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emelia Daubendiek, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Grace Patterson, who scored four points.
Marian struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pius X racked up 13 assists.
Pius X pushed their record up to 9-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Marian, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pius X will take on Kearney at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marian, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Omaha South at 5:30 p.m. Omaha South is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
