A feisty cat fight will be fought as Del Campo Cougars take on Roseville Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Del Campo is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Vanden just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 3-2.
Del Campo got a good showing from Logan Smith, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Roseville entered their tilt with River Valley on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 14-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly 14 runs.
Austin Chang looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyle Pettersen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, he posted four RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cyrus Young, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Roseville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.
Roseville pushed their record up to 8-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Del Campo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7-1.
Del Campo came out on top in a nail-biter against Roseville when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 3-1. Will Del Campo repeat their success, or does Roseville has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
