Valley Oaks CES hasn't had much luck against Lakeview Charter recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vanguards will face off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. Valley Oaks CES is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Valley Oaks CES is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Thursday. They fell 5-2 to Sun Valley Magnet. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Vanguards couldn't push the score so high this time.
Valley Oaks CES saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andre Zuniga, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lakeview Charter, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against Valor Academy by a score of 6-1 on Thursday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last six times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Angel Vazquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lakeview Charter is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Eric Perez and Angel Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Perez went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Sanchez went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Sanchez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julian De La Pena, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Lakeview Charter's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Valley Oaks CES, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Lakeview Charter's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Valley Oaks CES hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. It's a different story for Lakeview Charter, though, as they've only averaged .195. Will they be able to contain Valley Oaks CES' hitters?
Valley Oaks CES couldn't quite finish off Lakeview Charter in their previous meeting back in April and fell 12-10. Can the Vanguards avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
