The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs will square off against the Milpitas Trojans at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Monte Vista Christian has seven straight victories, Milpitas has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Monte Vista Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand King City a 14-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for Monte Vista Christian, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Aidan Miller looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Parker Brown was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Vessey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Monte Vista Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in eight consecutive matches dating back to last season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Milpitas and Branham meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. Milpitas fell just short of Branham by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Trojans have suffered since April 27, 2024.
Hugo Garay was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.
Garay wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Chavez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Ian Ostrander also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Monte Vista Christian pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Milpitas, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
