The Birmingham Patriots put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Calabasas with points to spare, taking the game 68-49. Given Birmingham's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Calabasas is ranked 747th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Birmingham to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lili Martinez, who scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Martinez continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Samantha Velasquez was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 5 assists.
Calabasas' lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jocelynn Townsend, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Scarlett Weiner, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Calabasas were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Birmingham only pulled down 18.
Birmingham's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Calabasas, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Birmingham will square off against Village Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Village Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 211 points over their last three games. Calabasas is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Louisville at 6:30 p.m. on December 6th. Louisville is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
