Softball Recap: Shaw Wins Going Away Against Manchester

Shaw won the last time they faced Manchester and things went their way on Monday too. The Raiders put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 16-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won ten games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Katlyn Moss and Skylar Lockhart made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Moss pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Lockhart struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Moss has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Moss went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI, while Lockhart got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Shaw got a massive performance out of Deanna Duncan, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Duncan a new career-high. Khloe Dorminey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Shaw was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manchester only posted a batting average of .208.

The victory made it two in a row for Shaw and bumps their season record up to 12-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Manchester, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-18.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shaw will square off against Sumter County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Manchester, they will face off against Marion County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
